St. Joseph’s College, Nainital, celebrated the inauguration of its new basketball court by hosting an exhilarating inter-school Basketball Tournament from March 16th to March 17th, 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from nine prestigious schools across the Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand, highlighting the sporting spirit and talent of the young athletes.

The tournament commenced with league matches on March 16th, leading to an intense competition that saw four teams advance to the semi-finals.
Semi-Final Highlights:
• The first semi-final match was a showdown between St. Joseph’s College (SEM) and CRST School, with SEM clinching a victory of 26-13.
• The second semi-final featured Gurukul International School against Ran Public School. Ran School emerged victorious with a score of 51-39, securing their place in the final.
The Final Showdown:
The final match was a captivating battle between St. Joseph’s College Nainital and Ran Public School. Demonstrating skill, teamwork, and determination, St. Joseph’s College claimed the championship with a final score of 19-14.
Award Ceremony:
The tournament concluded with a grand Prize Distribution ceremony. Principal Br Hector Pinto, Br Lawrence, BrJeorme, and Head Mistress Mrs. Zeba Raja honoured the teams and players with trophies and accolades.
Individual Awards:
• The Best Shooter: Adhiraj Basnet (SEM)
• Most Promising Player: Md. Hassan (RAN)
• Player of the Tournament: Chetan Jeena (SEM)
The new basketball court's inauguration was graced by Mr. Ashok Mehra, an esteemed alumnus from the ISC 1979 batch and the Chief Guest for the tournament. His presence added a layer of inspiration and nostalgia to the event.
The SEM Inter School Basketball Tournament 2024 was not just a competition but a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and the unifying power of basketball. It successfully laid the foundation for future tournaments to be held on the newly inaugurated court, promising many more years of thrilling basketball action.
